Gulf courses

After the Sultanate was absent from the first and second editions, Oman participated in the third championship in Kuwait in 1974.

In January 1974, the first gathering of the Oman national team for the Gulf Cup began, and it was in the “Bait Al Falaj” area. The gathering was quick and was not intended to achieve any of the specific sporting gains, and the goal was much higher than that, and 24 players were called on that day: Bakhit Al-Mas , Saud al-Habashi, Matar Abd Rabbo, Ahmad Nassib, Muhammad Bahrish, Jabal Khamis, Abdul Qadir al-Dhahab, Nasser Ali, Muhammad Bahwan, Hadid al-Alawi, Muslim al-Alawi, Nassib Bilal, Mubarak Khamis, Jamal Ahmad, Tarmah Muhammad, Salem Abdullah, Suwaid Khamis, Saleh Al-Maawali, Abdel Nabi Arab, Abdel Qader Khalifa, Talib Ali, Saleh Khamis and Jacob Youssef.

And they traveled to Kuwait and under the leadership of an Egyptian coach, Mamdouh Khafajah, the Omanis went through a new experience that they were not accustomed to. Goals and the third in front of Qatar with four goals and Oman was unable to score, but the beautiful memory was represented in the brothers welcoming the newcomer, and the Organizing Committee’s selection of the Omani player Muhammad Muslim may be among the ideal team as a matter of encouragement and to leave a historical imprint for the sixth team organizing the tournament.

first delight

And the dreams of the Omanis began to grow and grow, and in their second appearance in Doha in 1976, and under the leadership of coach Khafaga, the team presented advanced performances, losing hardly to Bahrain with an orphan goal, and snatched a historic tie against the Emirates and lost the rest of its matches.

The team was able to savor the taste of joy, even for a few minutes. Khalfan Mubarak managed to score a goal against Saudi Arabia, followed by Hamad Hareb against Qatar, while Muslim Abdullah scored a goal with the team achieving its first point in the history of the tournament.

And with seed from Lieutenant-General Abdul Qadir Khalifa, Ali Nasser, Suwaid Khamis, Muslim Al-Alawi and Khalfan Mubarak.

The foreign coach

In the fifth championship, which was organized in 1979, the team lost all its matches and its performances were somewhat modest, and Ahmed Soubar scored his team’s only goal in the tournament, and he was in the goal of Bahrain, in return for the team conceding 21 times, but he presented competitive matches against Qatar and Bahrain,

In front of Kuwait, the Oman national team played its best match ever and missed many opportunities, especially by Khalfan Mubarak, but Youssef Suwaid ensured that the Blues won that day with two goals. In that tournament, the foreign coach was present at the head of the technical staff, represented by the Englishman George Smith, and this reflects the keenness of officials in the Sultanate to pay attention to the game with the help of foreign expertise.

In the sixth championship hosted by the UAE

In the year 95, Oman qualified for the first time for the FIFA U-17 World Cup, which was organized in Ecuador, and the team achieved great results that enabled it to qualify for the semi-finals. In that tournament, Muhammad Amer Al Kathiri was chosen as the best player in the tournament, and the AFC chose him as the best junior in Asia for the year. Himself.

And when the championship returned to Muscat in 1996, Oman came out with only two points from two draws with Bahrain and the UAE, and lost its other three matches and only conceded 7 times in the six matches it played, a number that shook his net in only one match in the seventies!

In the last championship in Bahrain, Oman achieved its best position when it ranked fourth, which is the same position it achieved in 1990, but on that day the number of teams was only 5, meaning that this is the position before the last. As for the 14th Gulf Championship, Oman jumped a little forward, and if it were not for bad luck, it would have been on Podium.

In Khaleeji 15, the team excelled and succeeded in leaving its mark, as Hani Al-Dabet was crowned top scorer of the tournament,

And he achieved a great and historic victory over Kuwait 3-1, which was scored by the officer in one of the most beautiful matches in the history of the Gulf Cup.

In the last tournament in Kuwait, the performance of the Omani team improved, and it ranked fourth in the tournament with 8 points. It presented good matches and distinguished results, including a 2-0 victory over the Emirates.

And with the same result over Qatar, and a draw with the owner of the land in the opening without goals and with Yemen 1-1.

Gulf 17

Their coach, Machala, was able to develop in performance, and everyone noticed the difference in the technical level of the Omanis in Gulf 17. In Gulf 17 in the Qatari capital, Doha, she was able to qualify for the final match, but the Omani team lost the title in Gulf 17 only by penalty shootout against the Qatari team in the final.

Gulf 18
