Wales national football team

The Wales national football team (Welsh: Tîm pêl-droed cenedlaethol Cymru) and (in English: Wales national football team) is the official representative of Wales in the sport of football and is supervised by the Wales Football Association. 1876. Her biggest win was as a result of 11-0 against Ireland on March 3, 1888, and her biggest loss was on March 23, 1878 against Scotland, and her most famous player was Gareth Bale, who joined Real Madrid in 2013 and Aaron Ramsey, Arsenal player, and the most famous is Ryan Giggs, player Former Manchester United.

Wales played their first competitive match on 25 March 1876 against Scotland in Glasgow, making them the third oldest international football team in the world. Although the Scots won the first game 4-0, a second leg was planned in Wales the following year, and so the first international football match on Welsh soil took place at the racetrack, Wrexham, on 5 March 1877. Scotland won 2 -0. Wales' first match against England came in 1879, a 2-1 defeat at Kennington Oval, London. In 1882, Wales faced Ireland for the first time, winning 7-1 in Wrexham.

The four assemblies of the United Nations met in Manchester on 6 December 1882 to establish a set of universal rules. This meeting saw the creation of the International Football Association Board (IFAB) to approve changes to the rules, a task that the four associations continue to perform to this day. The 1883–84 season saw the formation of the British Home Championship, a tournament played annually between England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales, until 1983–84. Wales was champion on 12 occasions, winning seven times while sharing the title five times.

The FA became a member of FIFA in 1906, but the relationship between FIFA and British federations was fraught and the United States withdrew from FIFA in 1928 in a dispute over payments to amateur players. As a result, Wales did not enter the first three World Cups. In 1932, Wales hosted the Republic of Ireland, the first time it had played against a team outside the four nations. One year later, Wales played a game outside the United Kingdom for the first time when he traveled to Paris to play the France national football team in a 1-1 draw. After World War II, Wales joined the other three countries in the International Football Association (FIFA) in 1946, and participated in the qualifications for the World Cup in 1950, and the 1949-50 tournaments were selected for the qualification tournaments. The top two teams had qualified for the World Cup finals in Brazil, but Wales were bottom of the group.

World Cup 1958

The 1950s marked a golden age for Welsh football with stars such as Ivor Alchurch, Cliff Jones, Alf Sherwood, Jack Kelsey, Trevor Ford, Ronnie Burgess, Terry Medwin and John Charles.

Wales only made its World Cup finals at the 1958 World Cup in Sweden. However, their path to rehabilitation was extraordinary. After finishing second to Czechoslovakia in qualifying Group D, the golden generation of Welsh football directed by Jimmy Murphy appeared to have missed out on qualification, but Middle East politics subsequently intervened. In the Asian/African Qualifier Zone, Egypt and Sudan refused to play Israel in the wake of the Suez Crisis, while Indonesia insisted on meeting Israel on neutral territory. As a result, FIFA declared Israel the winner of their group. However, FIFA did not want to qualify for the World Cup without actually playing a match, and thus many second teams were drawn into the European Union. The Belgian national team was drawn first, but refused to participate, and then Wales was disqualified and awarded a two-legged match against Israel with a place in Sweden for the winners. After beating Israel 2-0 at Ramat Gan Stadium and 2–0 in Ninian Park, Cardiff, Wales moved to the World Cup for the first time and now.

The strong Welsh side made their mark in Sweden, benefiting from all the matches in their group against Hungary, Mexico and Sweden before defeating Hungary in a play-off to reach the quarter-finals against Brazil. However, Wales' chances of beating Brazil were hampered by an injury to John Charles, which kept him out of the match. Wales lost 1-0 with 17-year-old Pele scoring his first international goal. The goal made Pele the youngest scorer in the World Cup and Brazil won the tournament.

Wales' brilliant campaign in Sweden was the subject of the bestselling book When Pele Was Breaking Our Hearts: Wales and the 1958 World Cup (by Mario Risoli, St David's Press) published on the 40th anniversary of the World Cup and was also the inspiration for the Bafta Cymru Cymru-nominated documentary filter .
